Residential Garbage Disposal Guidelines
Bag lightweight and dusty materials, including ashes, cat litter, saw dust, packing peanuts and animal waste before putting them in the can or cart. Doing so will prevent them from blowing away when collected.
Do not put household chemicals (e.g., paints, pesticides, herbicides) or liquids in the garbage. Call Metro at 503.234.3000 for information on proper disposal.
Do not overfill containers. All materials should fit in the roll cart with the lid closed and should fall freely from container when emptied.
Use your roll carts first, and cans or bags up to 32-gallons may be used for extra garbage for an additional fee.
Contact us to arrange for collection of appliances, bulky items, and for other special services.
Garbage Container Guidelines
We will provide you with a 20-gallon, 35-gallon, 60-gallon or 90-gallon wheeled cart for service. You may not use your own cans or carts of other sizes.
Your cart must not exceed the following weight limits:
|20-gallon cart||35 lbs.|
|35-gallon cart||60 lbs.|
|60-gallon cart||120 lbs.|
|90-gallon cart||145 lbs.|
There is an additional charge for each extra bag or container (32-gallon with a 60 lb. weight limit) that doesn’t fit in your garbage container with the lid closed. If you often have extra garbage, you may want to increase your garbage container size to avoid overflow and additional garbage charges.
Placement of your Roll Carts
All services in Gresham have changed to automated service that is picked up by a truck with a mechanical collection arm, and proper placement is needed for the arm to function effectively. Please place your carts within 3 ft. of the curb and leave a space of 3 ft. between carts or mailboxes. Place carts 10 ft. from cars, basketball hoops, trees and other stationary objects, where possible.
Temporary Garbage Services
Containers or Drop Boxes are available for temporary projects such as household clean out, remodeling and construction.
